Professional:
1968-1969 American Film Institute, Washington, DC, Director of Film-maker Training and created the Internship Program. Subsequently was an intern on John and Mary, starring Dustin Hoffmann and Mia Farrow. was trained by Peter Yates, the film’s director.
1969 Cinematographer on Patrol into the Unknown, an NBC TV Special Program produced by Lowell Thomas.
1970-1973: Faculty, Rhode Island School of Design, taught classes in film history.
1972-1973: Director of Film Studies, Brown University, head of the film studies program, taught classes in film making and film history
1973-1975 The Indianapolis Museum of Art, consultant in film history, developed and presented a body of lectures about film history topics.
1976-1977 Producer/Managing Director, The Antioch Amphitheatre, Antioch College, Yellow Springs, Ohio produced two seasons of professional summer stock at this theater, one of the oldest repertory theaters in America.
1977 Guest Professor at Wittenburg University, Springfield, Ohio created curriculum and taught a course on still photography.

Lectures:
Richard Basch has delivered lectures and been the host/moderator since 1979 for well over 20 lecture series at the Smithsonian Institution as well as having given individual lectures and series of lectures at the The American Film Institute, The Corcoran Gallery of Art and The Phillips Collection. Topics have focussed on still photography and motion picture history. He has also lectured at Harvard University, Dartmouth University, Antioch College, UCLA, USC, Stanford University, San Francisco State, and Northwestern University.
He is listed in the following: Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in Advertising, Who's Who in Photography, The International Who's Who of Intellectuals. He has been a judge for the Cable Ace Awards.
Television productions include:
The Burning Issue. 1985 Documentary shown nationally. Well reviewed in the New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal. Excerpts were shown on Today and Good Morning America.
Profiles in Photography. 1988. A program about two photographers, was created as an outgrowth of the Smithsonian Institution lecture series, The Masters of Photography, moderated by Richard Basch.
Notes from the Future, What Happens When We Die. 1996 . A documentary for television, sponsored by the Rockefeller Foundation, consisting of interviews with persons who have had near death experiences.
Travel writing/photography
Assignments have taken Richard Basch to Pakistan, French Polynesia, England, Italy, Panama, Mexico, Hawaii, Germany, Austria and New Guinea. Photographs from some of these assignments are available on line at www.baschstudio.com.
He has also traveled around the globe visiting Thailand, Hong Kong, Greece, Turkey, Italy, Martinique, France, Jamaica, England, Australia, Papua/New Guinea, Fiji, Tahiti, Bora Bora, Morocco, Gibralter, Spain, Lebanon, Haiti, Bahamas, Mexico, Japan and Luxembourg He has sold stories to the following publications, Rudy Maxa’s Traveler, The Baltimore Sun, Modern Maturity, The Savvy Traveler. He has simple speaking knowledge of Italian, French and Spanish.
